SHAWNEE, OKLA.. —  Basketball returns to Shawnee this weekend as FireLake Arena will host the inaugural FireLake Fall Shootout Basketball Tournament. The event is a double-elimination five-on-five competitive tournament including teams from Oklahoma, Texas, Kansas, Missouri, Tennessee, and more. Teams will compete for a $10,000 total purse, including $7500 for first place, $1500 for second, and $1000 for third.

In addition to FireLake Arena (18145 Old Rangeline Road in Shawnee), the Shawnee YMCA will host action on Saturday, October 15. The Shawnee YMCA is located at 700 West Saratoga Street. Admission is $10 per day or fans can purchase a full tournament pass for just $15. Children 12 and under will be admitted free.

Saturday tips off with a full slate of action at both locations with game one of the tourney starting at 10:30 am at FireLake Arena. The action continues at 11:55 am on Saturday with games at both FireLake Arena and Shawnee YMCA. The finals of the tournament will take place on Sunday afternoon, October 16 at 1:50 pm at Firelake Arena with an if necessary game to follow at 3:15 pm. All tournament action on Sunday will be held at FireLake Arena.

 

Several probable members of the 2023 Potawatomi Fire are scheduled to participate in the tournament, including 2022 TBL MVP Deshawn Foster, Tevin Foster, and Theo Johnson, as well as potential newcomers Terry “T.J.” Maston and Chuck Guy. Players from other TBL teams will also play during the weekend action.

All games will be played using TBL (The Basketball League) rules with these modifications:

  • Four 10-minute quarters
  • First half running clock except the final minute and during free throws
  • Second half running clock except for the final two minutes and during free throws
  • Overtime will be decided by the first team to score 7 points
  • Six personal fouls, though the player can stay in the game. However, he will receive a technical foul for every additional foul.
  • Shoot the bonus on the 5th foul of each quarter or on the 2nd foul with under two minutes left in the game.
  • One time out in the 1st half  and two time outs second half
  • Other offensive rules of note:
    • Eight seconds to cross half court
    • 24-second shot clock
    • When the ball contacts the rim, players may touch the ball for a putback
  • Defensive rules of note:
    • Defensive three seconds in the lane will be called
    • When the ball contacts the rim, players may touch the ball to deflect it out
    • Goaltending can still be called

World championship homemade BBQ cooked by the Potawatomi Fire’s own general manager David Qualls will be available on Saturday. BBQ sandwiches will available for lunch on Saturday and BBQ plates available for dinner. Standard concession stand items such as hot dogs, nachos, chips, pizza, popcorn, candy, and drinks such as water, Powerade and soda will also be available.
