SHAWNEE, OK – Following a pair wire-to-wire, historic performances last weekend, the Potawatomi Fire had to fight for their undefeated record on Thursday night. The Fire edged out their Sooner State rival 145-129 to move to 17-0 on the year.
While the final score might indicate another dominate Fire win, it was anything but that. For the first time this year, the Fire trailed in the second quarter of a game, going down 58-59 with 36 seconds remaining in the half. The Fire were able to retake the lead before half, but Enid never let the Fire get comfortable. It wasn’t until the closing minutes, and a flurry of buckets by MVP candidate Chuck Guy, that the Fire were finally able to put Enid away.
“You have to give Enid a lot of credit,” said Fire head coach Mark Dannhoff. “We got out to a big lead in the first quarter and they could’ve folded but they continued to fight and made us work really hard for this victory. Coach Tucker and his team are playing really good basketball and they showed it tonight.”
Jay Hedgeman had arguably his best game of the season tying a season high with 22 points while grabbing 11 rebounds for his second double-double of the season. Hedgeman also blocked six shots to tie the Fire record and tallied five steals. From the free throw line, Hedgeman was 16 of 17.
“Jay was so good for us tonight,” said Dannhoff. “He’s always so consistent but tonight he took his game to another level. It was not an easy matchup with Enid’s bigs but he held his own and took advantage when he had opportunities.”
Guy continued his hot play leading the Fire with 38 points, 14 assists, seven rebounds, two steals, and a season-high two blocks.
K.D. Moore had another solid game with 26 points on 11 of 17 shooting. Moore also had nine rebounds, two assists, and two steals.
Ricardo Artis II finished with 19 points, nine rebounds, and five steals. Rounding out the starters, Willie Warren finished with 16 points and five assists.
Off the bench, Isaiah Wade recorded his third double-double of the season as he continues his push for TBL’s 6th Man of the Year award, finishing with 11 points and 10 rebounds.

With the win, the Fire are now 17-0. They also extended their TBL-record win streak to 38 and the TBL-record home win streak to 63. For Dannhoff, this was win 124 of his TBL career and win number 99 with the Fire.
Up next, the Fire travel to Dallas to take on the Dallas Stampede this Saturday, May 16th. Tipoff from the Singing Hills Recreation Center is set for 3 p.m. This will be the fourth meeting between these two teams. The Fire won the previous three meetings by an average of 64 points per game. Last time these two teams played on May 10th, the Fire won 191-85.
