SHAWNEE, OK – The Potawatomi Fire stayed perfect on the year with a big 133-99 victory over the San Antonio Clutch (0-6) on Sunday night.
The win extended two TBL-record winning streaks. The Fire have now won 36 consecutive games overall and 40 straight games inside FireLake Arena.
The Fire got off to a hot start leading by as many as 16 in the first quarter, but San Antonio fought back in the second frame cutting the Fire lead to just four at halftime.
“We didn’t play poorly in the first half, but we also didn’t do what we like to do,” said Fire head coach Mark Dannhoff. “I have to give San Antonio a lot of credit. They did a lot to take us out of our rhythm on offense and then they hit some tough shots as well. This is a good a team that has given teams issues all season long and they certainly challenged us tonight.”
Following halftime, the Fire were able to find their rhythm as they outscored San Antonio by 20 in the third quarter to take a 90-66 lead into the final frame. In that fourth quarter, the Fire extended the lead further to finish off the 34-point victory.
“Our fans were incredible tonight,” said Dannhoff. “You know, we had some struggles in the first half, but our fans kept up the energy and that really helped us out in. When were able to go on a run in the second half, the fans continued to keep the energy going and it really helped fuel us as we finally pulled away.”
Paul Harrison led the way for the Fire with a TBL career high 43 points on 65.4% shooting from the field. The 43 points were the third most in Fire history and the eighth 40-point game in Fire history. Harrison also finished with five rebounds and a pair of blocks.
“Paul was great tonight,” said Dannhoff. “I knew he was scoring a lot but I didn’t realize how many points he had until I was ready to sit him down and Charlie (Lampton) said he wasn’t going in until Paul got to 40. He’s been so good for us these past three years in so many ways but tonight was something special from him.”
Deshawn Munson had another big night for the Fire. He finished with 22 points and 13 rebounds for his third double-double of the season. Chuck Guy also recorded his third double-double with 14 points and 11 assists. Guy also grabbed six rebounds. In his first start of the year Jay Hedgeman finished with 17 points and eight rebounds. Rounding the players in double figures was Isaiah Wade who finished with 10 points and four rebounds off the bench.
