SAN ANTONIO, TX – The Potawatomi Fire got back to their early season form with a big 108-66 victory over the San Antonio Clutch on Monday night in San Antonio.
The 66 points are the second fewest allowed by the Fire in team history.
“We worked really hard on our defense this week,” said Fire head coach Mark Dannhoff. “We had kind of gotten away from what we want to do the past few games, but I felt like we got back to it tonight. I was really proud of how we defended.”
The Fire held San Antonio to just 36.7% shooting from the field and just 14.3% from behind the three-point line. The Fire also forced 27 steals, setting a new team record for turnovers forced.
Overall, seven Fire players recorded at least one steal for the Fire with Chuck Guy leading the defensive effort tying his team record with 7 steals. Along with those 7 steals, Guy finished with 3 points, 5 rebounds, and 14 assists.
“Chuck just does whatever we need him to do,” said Dannhoff. “He didn’t shoot the ball well tonight, but he got other guys involved and played great defense. Most importantly, he didn’t turn the ball over. Chuck likes to score but he’d much rather get his teammates involved and do the other things needed.”
Leading the offensive effort for the Fire was Isaiah Wade. Off the bench, Wade led the Fire with 23 points and 9 rebounds, including 6 offensive rebounds. Jachai Simmons also had another strong game with 22 points, 6 rebounds, and 2 steals. Ricardo Artis II finished with 12 points, 8 rebounds, 2 assists, and 3 steals while Jay Hedgeman chipped in with 11 points and 9 rebounds. Deshawn Munson also finished with double-digit points, finishing with 10 points and 5 rebounds. Munson is now just 19 points away from 2,000 points in his TBL career.
